Butterflies outclass Kone Tigers in POMRFL

BUTTERFLIES recorded their first win of the season disposing off a disjointed Lae Biscuit Kone Tigers 24-0 in the round three of Port Moresby Rugby League (POMRFL) competition on Sunday.
Fullback Joe Oliver put on a man-of-the-match performance setting up three first half tires for stand-in skipper Ronnie Seronte and winger Reejay Robert.
Seronte and Robert both scored two tries each to help their side dismantle the Tigers, who were missing some of their key players.
After coming off a gut-wrenching 18-16 loss to Royals the previous weekend, the Butterflies came out firing in first the half.
Tries to Seronte and a double by Robert saw Butterflies lead 14-0 at halftime.
An intercept by Seronte saw him sprint 70-metres to score his second of the afternoon to lead 18-0 in the second stanza.
Butterflies winger Andrew Palang sealed the game with a 50m effort down the touchline to score under the uprights.
Tigers tried to get into the game but their plays fell apart due to poor coordination but also some stinging defence from their opposition.
Best for Butterflies were Oliver, Seronte, Robert, Maiya Pond, Brian Sipa, Sammy Togu and halves, Aiden Koski and Mauwe John.
The forwards led by Olo Ben, Jacky Kuman, Alden Mereng, Jim Gisua and lock Trevor Solu laid the foundation for the victory.
Despite the win, Butterflies coach Michael Boeo said there was room for more improvement before their next game.
POMRFL has come up with two pools: Pool 1 – Tarangau, Brothers, Magani, Hohola Flies, Hanuabada Hawks, Kone Storm and Souths; Pool 2 – Butterflies, Dobo Warrriors, Kone Tigers, Gulf West, Paga Panthers, Defence and Royals.
