BUTTERFLIES beat Hanuabada Hawks 24-10 to reach the Port Moresby Rugby Football League top-eight at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Wednesday.
The Butterflies, who will play their final match of the regular season against Magani tomorrow, ran in four tries to the Hawks’ two in the A-grade washout match.
First half tries to Aiden Koski, Olo Ben and Elijah Kutz put the Butterflies ahead 18-0 before Hawks centre George Doura scored a converted four-pointer on the stroke of halftime to trail 6-18.
In the second half, complacency crept into the Butterflies’ game which saw the Hawks score through second-rower Kila Henao to bring the scores to 10-18. Port Moresby Vipers winger-cum-lock Rex Tandowa sealed the game for the Butterflies, scoring under the uprights after weaving his way past a couple of Hawks defenders to win 24-10.
Butterflies five-eighth and captain Trevor Solu converted all of the Butterflies’ tries.
