THE Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) has allocated K150,000 in this year’s Budget for Bougainville Rugby Football League, says an official.
ABG Finance and Treasury Department budget director Jimmy Biribudo confirmed that the funds were factored into the Budget.
He said the league management (executives) had requested the budget division to fully draw down the funds so that the three local leagues in Buka, Arawa and Buin could start their competitions early.
“As the treasurer for Bougainville Rugby Football League, I would also like to stress that the league must raise its own revenue through fundraising activities and the establishment of a business arm of the league to be factored in the yearly calendar,” Biribudo said in a statement. Bougainville RFL president Avis Vanua commended the ABG for allocating funds to support the three leagues.
He said this funds would mainly be used for the development and pathway programmes in the three leagues.
Vanua said the ABG had recognised youths in rugby league and other sports as part of its rehabilitation in the region which has made an impact in the community.
“I thank all the ABG members, stakeholders, players, team management and supporters for having the confidence in the Bougainville Rugby Football League to promote rugby league as a tool for unity,” he said.
“As the president, I’m proud of our progress and achievements in this short period of time as we aim to make our mark in sports.”
