BOUGAINVILLE came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Star Mountain in round nine of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Star Mountain veteran forward Tau Winnie opened the scoring 11 minutes into the match at the Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
Bougainville had many scoring chances but could not convert them into goals.
However, they were awarded a penalty in the 61st minute after a reckless challenge by Star Mountain’s goalkeeper on Bougainville striker Adrian Redenut.
Bougainville’s Arniel Passam scored from the penalty spot to level the scores and the remainder of the match was scoreless.
Despite forcing a draw, coach David Passam was not satisfied with his team’s performance.
“My players could have done better but for unknown reasons, they can’t put things together,” Passam said of his side, who remain five points adrift of the playoff spots in fifth.
