By-election nominations open: Officer

THE nominations for the Menyamya by-election will now be accepted at the Morobe electoral office, provincial electoral manager Simon Soheke said.
Soheke said this after the writ for the by-election was issued yesterday.
Nominations close on Feb 20 followed by polling from April 4-18.
The return of the writ will be on or before May 11.
The by-election is expected to cost K6.1 million.
Soheke said to nominate, candidates had to provide the following: form 29 (candidate information); form 23 (nomination of candidate for election) and, provide official (original) receipt of payment (no photocopies will be accepted).
Also provide four passport-sized photos and endorsed on the back with candidate’s name and party affiliation and form 30 (political party information – if candidate is endorsed by a party).
“It is important for candidates to also bring a witness when completing the nomination process after paying their nomination fee of K1,000,” Soheke said.
He said payment should be made to Electoral Commission Trust Account (account name) at the Bank South Pacific; Account No: 1000 489 658.
