THE first week of the commissioning course for the final year PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) and Correctional Services (CS) ended during the weekend and they are now into the second and final week of training.
The first week was conventional war fighting training which was held in the bushes of Situm in Nawaeb, Morobe, and the second part was stability or urban operations which started on Saturday in Lae.
Exercise controller Lieutenant Mark Matagarakikai of the joint Forces Academy in Lae said they had transitioned into the stability phase where they would conduct stability operations or tasks, starting at Igam Barracks and extending to other parts of Lae.
“It will end on May 14 where they’ll do a culminating activity at the stadium,” he said.
“We are thinking of engaging other stakeholders, especially Government agencies such as police, CS, Fire Service and St John Ambulance who will be assigned different tasks.
“For conventional part, they’ll do clearance patrols, ambushes, listening posts and observation posts.
“For stability operations, they’ll be doing cash evacuation, crowd control, vital asset protection.”
