THE PNG Fashion and Design Week has encouraged local designers to be part of a second fashion show in October, director Janet Sios says.
She said during the launching of their 2017 fashion show in Port Moresby on Tuesday that as a local fashion event company, the main goal was to encourage and facilitate the growth of the fashion industry through the arts and fashion textiles.
“Part of our objective and plan is to empower the younger generation to become aware of fashion industry in Papua New Guinea so they can tap into it as they get out of school and look at it as an option to get into business,” Sios said.
Executive officer Christopher Lam said applications were now open for interested local designers.
“Applications for interested designers for the show is now open for both established and emerging designers who would like to showcase on our runway,” he said.
“All interested individual are required to submit three sketches from their proposed collection for our runway in addition to the information required on the application form.”
Lam said the designers were encouraged to use sustainable materials to design their outfits according to their theme of climate change.
“Their outfit collections will all tell stories of how climate change is causing changes in their culture back in their villages and more importantly the resilience that the people have towards it.
“The applications will close on July 31 at midnight and the application will all be vigorously looked at by the committee before the team will announce the final line-up on the first week of August.”
