Call for authorities to clarify domestic travel restrictions

PAPUA New Guinea Volleyball Federation president Kila Dick has called on authorities to clarify domestic travel restrictions as the governing body prepares for this year’s national championships in Lae.
“At the moment, we have to monitor our domestic flights whether it’s safe to travel,” he told The National. “We’ll have to take into account how we can negotiate with the airlines if and when our athletes and teams are going to be able to travel around the country.
“If the restrictions are lifted, I’m sure we can host our national championships at the end of the season where it would most likely be held in November or December.
“In relation to organising the championships, our main concern will be how we are going to fly over some of the associations from the provinces.
“If there are still restrictions on movement of teams between provinces, then we have no choice but to reschedule our championships to next year.”
Volleyball is among other major sports that recently announced their plans to resume competitions and events for this year under the PNG Sports Foundation’s back-to-sport Covid-19 protocol.
