Call for ENB SMEs to register with business tax

SMALL-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and other small businesses in East New Britain (ENB) are urged to register with the new small business tax (SBT) regime, ENB deputy administrator in charge of socio-economy Levi Mano says.
“There are many small businesses that have been operating for years without paying tax or not indirectly contributing to the province and nation,” he said.
“Now is the time to get registered with the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC).”
Speaking at the launch of the SBT programme in Kokopo last week, Mano said SBT applied to individuals who conducted business as a sole trade and was aimed at making it easy for micro and small
businesses to comply with the tax law.
“Taxation has been part of our lifestyle in different forms,” he said.
“It is not new.
“We have been driven away by the complexity by the globalised community today.
“This is a new way of taxing people and businesses.
“Do not be scared as Government agencies in partnership with the business agencies and SMEs in the community then all can stand together to deliver services to our people,” he said.
Mano said that the SBT was introduced to enable businesses to look after their own books.
