He made the calla fter Lae MP John Rosso, Governor Ginson Saonu, Lae Chamber of Commerce and Morobe police made similar calls for the banning of beer outlets in the city.
The mayor also called for the closure of a club at Eight Street in Top Town which has been the scene of fights and drunkenness.
“This particular club has reports of fights involving drunkards. It operates 24 hours luring drunkards and prostitutes, causing a nuisance in the heart of the Lae city,” Trilue said. “The liquor selling and dancing should be banned totally and the facility converted into other businesses.”

“There are many nightclubs in Lae operating without control and creating a nuisance that need to be closed down,” Saonu said.
LCCI president John Byrne said the chamber “supports unequivocally the banning and closing of illegal and unregistered liquor outlets”.
“We also do not believe there is a need to sell liquor on a 24-hour basis.”
