YOUNG people in East New Britain have been urged to refrain from having children at an early age.

Gazelle MP Malakai Tabar, who is also the Minister for Higher Education Research Science and Technology, called on young people to consider establishing a financial background before intending to start a family.

He also strongly called on parents to continuously discourage their children from starting a family too soon.

He made this call in the province last week.

Tabar said he was qualified to talk about population because he represented a district with the third largest population in the country.

He said the population issue was particularly of concern to him because ENB had the highest population growth in the country.

Gazelle district had the highest population growth in the province.

He has also visited secondary schools in his electorate to advise students to concentrate on their studies and secure good employment before deciding to start a family and have children.

Tabar warned that the population issue would become a major problem for the province soon.

He called on all provincial and national leaders from the province to work together to address the issue.

Tabar said the population growth can be managed only if the provinces works  to encourage people to have control birth rate.

Like anywhere in the country where they were experiencing population growth, ENB is no exceptional.

The province had seen its population growing over time and it was growing at a faster rate now which is a concern.
