Call to reduce greenhouse gases

THE Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) has recommitted its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the forestry, energy and land use sectors.
CCDA managing director Ruel Yamuna said during a stakeholders workshop last week that it was to validate Papua New Guinea’s enhanced nationally determined contributions (NDC) against climate change, for 2020-2030.
“The Nov 27 validation of the NDC reflects the Government’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the forestry, energy and land use sectors,” he said.
“NDCs are a list of actions that a country intends to pursue to achieve, adapt and mitigate against the impacts of climate change.”
Yamuna acknowledged the support of stakeholders and development partners and said the revision process is linked with the sustainable development goals (SDG) and 13 Climate Roadmap to help reach ambitious targets and contribute towards achieving the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Country representative of global green growth institute, Dr Achala Abeysinghe, re-emphasised the institutions commitment to support PNG’s rapid transition to a strong, inclusive and resilient green growth model through this enhanced NDC and the SDG13 Roadmap.
