Call to take ownership of selection

SECONDARY schools in Eastern Highlands are to take ownership of the grade 11 online selection programme, provincial education adviser Albert Wesley says.
“The Education Department is rolling out grade 11 online selections into provinces giving schools the chance to select grade 10 students to go to grade 11 next year,” he said.
Wesley said the selection was leaning toward paperless approach as the education sector moved into a digitised system.
“I call on all the schools to take ownership of grade 11 selection as it has been implemented in the provinces,” he said.
Wesley said the selection would reflect the performances of their respective school principals and as such principals need to work hard.
The selections process for Eastern Highlands schools was scheduled for three days this week.
Senior professional assistant (post primary) Mecksy Lahone said all eligible grade 11 students would be given preferences to continues into secondary level.
He said equal opportunity would be given for every student as the had the right to be in school if eligible.
Principal Hunten Humave of Henganofi Secondary School, acknowledged, the director’s message and assured him that they were doing their best in the province to perform to meet the required standards.
Chairman of principals of Eastern Highlands Secondary Schools Peter Hasu welcomed the opportunity the Education Department had given to the province.
He said the approach was a first for the province.
He called for cooperation and partnership between principals and schools to effectively roll out the grade 11 selections in Eastern Highlands.
