UNIVERSITY of Natural Resources and Environment Popondetta campus director Jack Lapauve has praised the University Council for deciding that all students live on campus.
Lapauve said the decision contributed greatly to positive student behaviour as there had been a notable improvement in attitude since the beginning of the year and fewer-alcohol related cases.
He said the decision had kept all students on campus to concentrate on their studies and take part in campus activities.
He commended the university administration for developing the university by-law, which had contributed to the smooth flow of the academic year.
Lapauve said the number of student disciplinary cases had dropped dramatically and students were cooperating with staff and the administration.
While admitting there had been a few incidents recently, he said they were not as bad as in previous years.
Lapauve said rice farming would be a new development soon on the campus as negotiations were still progressing.
He said he had discussed with the National Agriculture Research Institute on Trukai Industry’s interest in establishing 10-15 hectares of rice fields on university land.
Lapauva said the project would be purely to support rice seedlings to farmers.
