Capital Rugby Union launches 2024 season

PORT Moresby’s Capital Rugby Union (CRU) has launch its 2024 season on Wednesday night that kicks off this weekend, with bigger plans ahead to improve the code in Papua New Guinea.
President Kori Chan said they had plans to provide players at all levels and ages pathway to success, both on and off the field.
“CRU remains steadfast in its mission to increase participation and awareness of rugby union while fostering a culture of inclusivity and sportsmanship within the community,” he said.
“At the heart of CRU’s commitment lies its dedication to our community, with initiatives aimed at building strong and progressive communities through the sport.
“For this season, we will roll out training and mentoring programmes designed to empower players, coaches, team officials, match officials, administrators, and volunteers, ensuring off-field growth and personal development.”
Chan said they would focus on expanding the game in the next two years with the introduction of junior rugby camps that would help cater for all ages from Under12s to Under18s, further bolstering participation and talent development of the sport in the country.
“At the moment we are forging international partnerships to create pathways for players, coaches, and administrators to participate in elite development programmes with partnerships with associations in Australia, South East Asia, and Fiji that will open doors for its players to be exposed to high-performance programs and international competitions,” added the union president.
Participating teams for season 2024; men’s and women’s: Harlequins, Kramer Ausenco Brothers and Sisters, Nova, Crusaders, MBB Marlins, University Piggies, Wanderers, Juggernauts, Valley Hunters and Kone Sharks.
