CAR accidents are happening every day in Madang because drivers do not follow simple traffic rules, according to police.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said drivers were often at fault after a woman died in an accident at Biribiri along the North Coast Road last week.
He said police were investigating the cause of the accident.
Supt Rubiang said in another accident, a Toyota Land Cruiser slid on the Banab Bridge along the North Coast Road on Friday and was jammed diagonally, blocking it.
He said according to assessments, the bridge was slippery when it rained.
Supt Rubiang said vehicles travelling on that bridge must be careful and cross slowly.
“I have been talking more on the drivers to follow traffic rules but they are still disobeying them so accidents are reported to police every day. If only we follow simple traffic rules and signs, we will see less traffic accidents,” he said.
Supt Rubiang said he was not happy to see reports on social media and other platforms about traffic accidents.
He said traffic rules were always there and drivers should know them before getting on the road.
Supt Rubiang called on police officers to arrest and charge traffic offenders to minimise accidents in the province.

  • No it’s the failure of the png transport division to put up speed limit signs and safety signs along all the roads in png. They should communicate with the road and bridge construction companies to put up all the required signs for the road users to follow.

  • Eddie,
I’d say the blame game is squared on the drivers and whoever is responsible for road signs. Simple: SPEED KILLS! Egocentric drivers please listen and take heed of these important traffic messaging. Traffic in Madang should now use this catchphrase: EGOISM KILLS in Madang; and move around with mallets to bang on drivers’ heads – a shock therapy for the egocentric drivers; to take heed of simple rules and guides.
Sapos Madang polis iwanbel lo displa sajesten; traim na aplaim na lukim – senis bai kamap long Madang.
