CAREER expos are an important avenue for students to explore the different tertiary institutions and make informed choices when they complete grade 12, an academic says
Kopkop College deputy principal Rogana Pawai said this during a one-week expo at the Port Moresby National High School from Aug 16-20, where more than 3,000 grade 12 students attended.
Kopkop College grade 12s attended the 2021 National Capital District (NCD) secondary school career expo in order to draw information regarding career options.
“The career expo is an important avenue for our students to explore the different tertiary institutions, because at this point in time some students don’t know what choice to make and what to put in their school leaver form,” Pawai said.
The 2021 career expo saw students visiting stalls from 27 private and government institutions, including the country’s four major universities and the police department.
“It’s a very exciting event for the students, the teachers and the exhibitors,” NCD guidance officer and career expo coordinator Elsie Tauye said.
Pawai, who is part of the career expo committee, said the committee had selected leading institutions to exhibit at the event in order to allow students to have access to information such as scholarships, fees, enrolment space and grade-entry requirements.
“I believe our grade 12 students at Kopkop College should have a fair idea of where they want to go, because they have streamed into respective subjects already and they know what courses they should apply for,” she said.
