Caritas Australia donates tanks, cement to ward in Jiwaka

A WARD in Jiwaka has received water tanks that will enable them to have access to clean and safe water, thanks to Caritas Australia.
The Koskala two ward in the Banz local level government area was blessed with 10 Tuffa tanks (five 9,000L and five 5,000L) distributed to them last Sunday.
The communal tanks will benefit church groups, schools, a health post and members of the Sekaka tribe that live in the villages of Goldop, Bulunts, Anznimp, Koskala, Korop, Kambawola and Kala.
Ward councillor Andrew Misik expressed his people’s gratitude to Fr Joseph Tumbo, who liased between Caritas Australia and the community for the projects.
Tumbo briefed the community about the work Caritas Australia was doing to support and improve lives of people in vulnerable communities affected by natural disasters, conflicts, health and other issues.
“Out of the many, you have been selected to receive such an important project,” he told the people.
Tumbo said words could not express how the people felt as it was a real privilege.
“I thank our Catholic friends in Australia for supporting vulnerable communities in PNG to have better lives,” he said.
“Life will never be the same for the Sekaka people.”
“I can assure you (Caritas Australia) that we are ready to work with you and God will bless your hands to continue such work for his people.”
To install the tanks, Caritas Australia gave around 60 bags of cement and 80 pieces of PVC pipes, along with 20 knapsack sprayers for 20 farmers.
The community started to install the tanks on Monday and will also work on fixing a bridge at the Karan village.
Bulunts Primary School head teacher Charles Nepi thanked Caritas Australia and Fr Tumbo for their collaboration in delivering a vital service to the people.
