TO give significance to the future of the game, executive of the annual Eastern Papua Carnival soccer tournament have taken on board children to play in Under-10 and U14 matches after the adults’ games at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.

Coordinator Janet Toiveguwa said eight junior clubs showed interest and registered during the weekend to play their first games.

Toiveguwa, who works with the PNG Football Association in the Just Play Programme, said because of the interest the children had she wanted to use her experience and knowledge to help the children in their games.

She said the kids were now at a growth stage where they easily imitated what adults did and when on the field watching adults play, that also drove their interest to play.

“We have decided to allow them  to play because we know they are the ones who will be playing in this competition in the years to come,” she said.

President Bede Tomokita said because of children’s interest, they did not want to ignore them but set out to create an avenue for them to expose their skills and talents.
