THE Goroko district court hearing of a 30-year-old man who allegedly raped his daughter was yesterday postponed to today because magistrate Gerard Vetunawa was ill.
The man was charged with having carnal knowledge and incest with his daughter under section 223 (1) (a) of the Papua New Guinea Criminal Code Act Chapter 262 on March 23 and the hearing was postponed to yesterday to allow Asaro police to complete their paperwork.
According to police investigations, the man had raped his biological daughter twice between Dec 31 and January this year in Asaro Daulo, Eastern Highlands.
The man, from Kofena Village, had sent his wife and younger children to another village to visit her uncles and relatives but told his daughter to remain at home.
As soon as the mother and other children left Kofena, he threatened his daughter and used force to strip and rape her, police allege.
The man allegedly raped his daughter again between 11am and midnight on Jan 13 this year.
The daughter remained silent under threat but later fled to seek help from her aunty (her mother’s biological sister) who then reported the matter to police.
