Cases before court adjourned until burial of Justice Nablu

ALL cases before the Supreme Court will be adjourned until the burial of judge Leka Nablu, expected next week.
Justice Nicholas Kiriwom explained this yesterday in the Supreme Court at Waigani.
He adjourned an application filed by the Electoral Commission seeking leave to review a National Court decision on July 4 that ordered a recount for the Kandep Open seat.
The recount had been sought by former Kandep MP Don Polye challenging the win in the 2017 general election by his successor Alfred Manase.
“As is the tradition, a chief justice should put to rest the body of
a late judge before resuming duties.
“I am afraid we will have to wait because the chief justice (Sir Gibbs Salika) will have to hear the matter,” Justice Kiriwom said.
The late judge’s body is expected to arrive in Port Moresby from Hong Kong on Monday.
The funeral is expected to be held around next Wednesday.
Justice Kiriwom said two other applications filed by Manase seeking Supreme Court orders would also be stood over to Aug 8.
“This is because Aug 8 is the most likely date for the Supreme Court hearings to resume following the funeral and burial of the late judge.”
