For as low as K10 per movie, the new Paradise Cinema branch at Waigani Central is proving to be a mecca for movie-goers in the nation’s capital.

Joint venture partners City Pharmacy Ltd Group, PNG FM and Fiji’s Damodar Group launched the multiplex cinema, which cost them about K7 million.

CPL Group general manager Omprakash Seshadri said the main motive behind having cinemas was to bring some night life into Port Moresby.

He said before Paradise Cinema’s establishment, they had seen that the only night life after hours in the capital was night clubs – which catered for adults only.

“We are providing an avenue for families to come out at night,” Seshadri said.

“So far, we have had a positive response from the public.

“This new branch is made to suit the common people.

“The whole point is to have anybody come in and have a taste of a cinema setting, with digital 2d and 3D experience.

In comparison with Paradise Cinema’s branch at Vision City, Seshadri said the price for tickets at Vision City was higher than Waigani, but the standard was not compromised.

Paradise Cinema senior manager Esther Gegelagi said they were working to provide affordable and basic cinema experience with digital technology for movie-goers.

Shaz, Legend FM programme director, said PNG FM was thriving to be the best entertainment company in the country.

“PNG FM is providing entertainment for PNG. This cinema is a whole lot cheaper,” she said.

Plans are in place to expand in the near future to other centres of the country.

Tickets is going for K15 for adults and K10 for kids (12-years-old and below) for 2D movies; K18 for adults and K13 for kids (12 years old and below).
