Catholics called to cleanse hearts

CATHOLICS around the country were being called to cleanse their hearts as they celebrated Lent last Sunday.
Fr Jomi Chaneparambi, of the St Michaels Catholic Parish in Lae, gave his homily on the human heart as a sacred place for God in this season of Lent.
“A human heart is the most sacred sanctuary that Jesus lives in and is not visited by most men,” said Fr Chaneparambi.
He started his homily by telling a fictional story in PNG context about Jesus asking his angels for a place to hide from his followers after he got tired of their sinful ways.
“Jesus asked his angels to tell him about the best place to hide so that no one will find him, and the first angel told him, you should go up to the highest mountain peak such as Mt Wilhem and hide there for no one will dare to find you there.
“Jesus replied that if man can build and use latest technologies to go up to the moon, what can stop them from finding me on the highest mountain peak? The next angel told him, then you should go and hide in the rainforest as it is so dense and vast such as the PNG rainforest, no one will find you there.
“Jesus again said that if man can venture into the deepest rainforest to extract gold, oil and gas, what would stop them from looking for me? “While the two angels were talking, the smallest angel was very quiet, listening attentively to them, then he got up and said to Jesus, the only sacred place that you can hide is in a human heart, as it is the least expected place for anyone to find you as well as the most sacred place to be found in,” Chaneparambi said.
