CATTLE farmers from Tewae-Siassi’s Sialum in Morobe, have formed a new association to advance their ranch, a farmer says.
Spokesman Muzeri Ninom said for the past 65 years, cattle farming had been the main source of income for the people with four divisions Dedua, Ziwe, Amugen and Nomu representing 62 cattle projects in the LLG.
Ninom, a farmer from ward two, Kingalanga in the Sialum local level government said they were unhappy with the management of the Sialum Cattle Farmers Association.
He said the association received K1 million support grant from the district development authority (DDA) through its chairman and MP Dr Kobby Bomareo.
Ninom said they had not received what was promised to them.
He said the farmers were told they would receive K2,741 each for their cattle projects during a meeting at Sungunum in Nomu division.
He said they did not get the amount they were promised, instead, some received K2,000, others K1,000 while others received nothing.
“All the cattle farmers our story is one,” he said.
“We all are facing the same problem as we can pay for the materials but to hire for boats, we cannot as boat fees have gone up charging us K1,500 which we cannot afford with the lesser amount,” he said. “We were told that we would be getting our remaining half of our funds later.”
