FINANCIAL training for women’s associations will start in Western province following the signing of an understanding between the Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF) and Centre for Excellence in Financial Inclusion (CEFI).
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed yesterday by OTDF executive manager programme services Andrew Mari and Cefi executive director Saliya Ranasinghe will see the roll out a financial literacy training for rural women’s associations to empower them in small business activities.
OTDF executive manager programme services Andrew Mari acknowledged Cefi for the new partnership that aims to equip participants with the skills and understanding of how to run and grow businesses.
“We have heard about Cefi, we have read about what they have done in financial literacy, and we are privileged to be supported by them,” Mari said.
Cefi launched its financial inclusion strategy (2023 to 2027) last year which had two aspects to it, firstly to get the public on the financial literacy fund by developing various modes of delivering financial literacy.
The other aspect of the strategy is to empower people to be aware of the digitalisation of the banking sector and to be able to use that knowledge to do business.
Cefi executive director Saliya Ranasinghe explained that the MOU covered both aspects and targeted a thousand women entrepreneurs in Western province.
“We will be training the local trainers who will in turn do the retail training for the rural people,” Ranasinghe said.
“It’s very important that we establish this relationship with the local training institution so it will lead to sustainability in the long run.”
