Central mum needs K50,000 to treat cancer

A FAMILY from Central is urgently appealing to friends, relatives and fellow Papua New Guineans for financial assistance to help their mother seek medical treatment for cancer overseas.
Hariesa Nau, 63, has developed a thyroid carcinoma or cancer around the neck.
On examination, she was found to have a huge firm, fixed thyroid mass extending from the sub-mental region to the clavicle.
She cannot be treated in the country due to non-availability of cancer treatment services which includes radiotherapy and radioiodine services.
Hariesa’s husband, Rima Nau, said the total cost was estimated to be more than K50,000 which included airfares, accommodation and hospital fees.
Rima explained that due to the urgency of the matter, the family was planning to travel to Singapore before the end of this month and would appreciate if donations were to come in at the earliest.
Rima, a former politician, added that the government needed to look into upgrading the existing hospital facilities to cater for sicknesses such as cancer, which is a killer in PNG.
“Sending people overseas is too costly and ordinary Papua New Guineans cannot afford it.
“Hariesa right now is living on prayers,” Rima said.
All donations can be deposited into ANZ cheque account name: Hariesa Nau Medical Appeal Account.
The account number is 13713111, Harbour City branch.
