TEACHERS from schools in Central have received a week-long training on the revised standard-based curriculum (SBC) that has bee rbrought back by the education department.
The Central education office, in partnership with the Australian government, through the Kokoda Initiative, trained more than 70 teachers from nine primary schools in the Sogeri area.
Central senior standards officer and co-facilitator Patrick Dimsock said the training programme aimed to prepare and upskill teachers on the teaching methods used the SBC structure.
“Teachers need to understand the basics of the SBC before they can implement it in their schools,” he said.
“This will mean all students will be taught at the same standard and receive the same level of learning.”
Training co-facilitator and head teacher Goberi Maino said teachers must understand curriculum changes to ensure education standards were sustainably lifted across the province.
“To achieve this standard, all students must reach a set benchmark to progress to the next stage and this can only be achieved with having the right attitude, right understanding and knowledge,” he said.
Australia assisted with the supply of training materials and transport, including travel and accommodation for the teachers.
