GIRLS enrolled at Buk bilong Pikinini Tatana Library Learning Centre (LLC) celebrated the UN International Day of the Girl Child on Friday with numeracy and problem solving.
A statement from Buk bilong Pikinini said they tested out a new problem solving kit by playing and exploring some of the Stem (science technology engineering and maths) focused teaching aids.
The kit includes a fun shape sorting competition, measured items and body parts (hands, feet and noses), weighed different items on the scales and pan balance.
The girls also did a lot of counting
Buk bilong Pikinini has also started a new exciting financial literacy session programme with Bank South Pacific. “The children are taught the importance of saving and understanding the value of money,” Anne-Sophie Hermann, BbP founder and chair said.
“BSP has developed a very clever and engaging programme to teach this.”
The problem solving kits contain many great teaching aids such as scales, pan balance, abacus, charts, craft materials and many educational games and toys, which have been purchased with funding from ExxonMobil PNG and gifted to all BbP’s library learning centres.
The girls, who participated were; Lucy Kato, Sarah Peter, Sibona Ake, Boga Geana, Rosemary Councilor, Esra Lohia, Sarea Gaigo and Hannah John.
