Centres vital for businesses

AGRO-INDUSTRIAL centres are important to promoting agri-businesses in Western and the country, says an expert.
West Agro Holdings chairman Ian Middleton said such centres promoted agri-businesses to generate income.
“Western is a difficult province in terms of logistics. The population is small and scattered throughout a vast landscape,” he said.
“That is why our strategy is to have these agro-industrial centres in strategic locations so all the people in the province can benefit from the agribusiness services provided.
“That is the way we developed the West Agro master plan and the intention of having West Agro Holdings as a holding company to guide agricultural development in the province.”
Three centres will be set up in:
l North Fly – the Kiunga centre at Samagos will focus on vanilla;
l Middle Fly – a satellite centre at Obo/Kaviananga to focus on rice; and South Fly – the Suki centre at Nakaku to focus on cocoa.
“Each of the products produced and exported from these centres will be branded as Fly Vanilla, Fly Cocoa and Fly Rice,” he said.
