AN association chairman from Madang has urged landowners in the Ramu NiCo Project areas to respect the nickel and cobalt project and its developer.

Kurumbukari landowner association chairman, Mathew Denguo said that was because there were more impact projects to be delivered by Ramu NiCo under a public private partnership arrangement with the state.

Speaking at the delivery of two new trucks for the business women at the Usino station last Friday, he appealed to the people to work together with the stakeholders.

The project – since construction from 2006 to 2010 – has seen many impacted infrastructure, including roads, bridges, schools and aid posts among others.

Recently, a contract has been off-loaded to Kurumbukari landowners for Enekwai and Danagari project of 15 houses to be built at the cost of K2.5 million and Baiya bridge construction support with K5 million towards the Department of Works.

“From 2000 to 2014, National Government has committed K101 million and so far they have spent K13 million and expected to do more for Madang,” Denguo said.

The National Government has made its commitments under the revised MOA 2013 in other projects including roads, Basamuk and Usino township and growth centres.

Denguo said these projects will undergo feasibility studies in the 2015 national budget. Once completed, feasibility study report will be submitted to the government for actual funding in 2016.
