Chairman Tsaka pays tribute to Ottio

KATO Ottio was described as a great hope and an inspiration to a generation by PNG Rugby Football League Chairman Sandis Tsaka, pictured.
Tsaka confirmed that it was the first time for the rugby league family in PNG to bid farewell to a current PNG Kumul bringing to the fore one of the most difficult and confusing times in their history.
“Whilst we have developed a routine for funerals of former Kumul where the staff and players attend, this has been confusing for us because haven’t anticipated losing someone young with so much promise,” Tsaka said.
He said preparing a formal tribute for late Kato Ottio has been one of the most difficult things he has ever done as chairman of the PNGRFL.
“I stayed up all night trying to prepare what to say and I will admit that I couldn’t find anything to say to be relevant to comfort the grieving family and friends and provide rationale that can explain this tragedy,” Tsaka said.
“But I remember something I read in school before that death has no rhyme or reason to it, and death does not discriminate age, race or religion and it comes to all.
“Whilst his football talent and skills has been the source of pride and joy for those of us that have been blessed to work with and see Kato in person, his humanity, professionalism, sacrifice, discipline and commitment is a testament to us all.”
