Challenge to revive industry

TOURISM, Arts and Culture Minister Walter Schnaubelt has a big task to revive the tourism industry after the impacts of the Covid-19, says his predecessor Emil Tammur.
Kokopo MP Tammur said more than 200,000 tourists visited the country last year but this has dwindled significantly because of the Covid-19.
“It’s going to be hard to rebuild but I’m pretty sure with your background and where you come from, this is not a new thing to you,” Tammur said.
Schnaubelt thanked Tammur for raising the bar.
“I don’t mind having a higher bar.
“Challenges are healthy and I look forward to that,” Schnaubelt said.
“If we want to achieve our annual targets on a regular basis, then it requires all of us to work together and every one of us needs to carry their responsibilities.”
Northern Governor Gary Juffa said tourism was a huge sector which needed more government attention.
“There is so much more we can do in the industry and this government is very interested in this sector,” he said.
