THE East Sepik chamber of commerce assisted police in the province with K14,000 for its Christmas and New Year operations.
Police commander Supt Albert Beli said the financial assistance would help his officers carry out their tasks during that period.
Chamber president Matthew Isifu presented the cheque to Supt Beli.
Supt Beli told The National that the money was used on office supplies, vehicle repairs and rations for remandees.
He thanked the local business community for its support and said building relationships and partnerships between police and the community was the best way to ensure law and order was maintained.
Supt Beli said Wewak and Angoram had reported some disturbances over Christmas while Yangoru-Saussia, Maprik, Wosera-Gawi and Ambunti-Dreikikier were all quite.
He confirmed that additional manpower had been sent to Angoram to assist local police to resolve a situation involving the death of two youths and the burning down of more than 40 houses in the district.
