Champ from Porebada bags eighth national snooker title

 PNG women’s snooker champion Geua John won her eighth consecutive National Women’s snooker title in Port Moresby on Sunday.

The Oceania runner up defeated Boio Lele Vani  4-0 (42-24, 64-23, 86-15, 54-20) in the best of seven frames final at the Port Moresby Country club. John made the highest break of 25 of the tournament in the third frame of the final.

This is her first title under new sponsors Agara Engineering. The Porebada woman beat newcomer Louisa Veveka 2-0 in the last 16, fellow PNG representative Helen Samuel 3-0 in the quarter final and former champion Agnes Mawi 3-1 in the semi-finals to cruise to the finals. 

While on the other end, Vani beat fellow Hanuabadan Hane Vaieke 2-1 in the last 16, edged out Waisina Laho 3-2 in a marathon quarter finals and pipped Madeleine Kaina 3-2 in the semi-finals to set up a showdown against John.

The plate was won by Loa Tanza  who beat Susan Tiki 2-0. 

Tournament director Richard Whitchurch congratulated all 32 players who took part in the inaugural Agara Women’s snooker titles and also the sponsors.
