PUBLIC health in Papua New Guinea will change for the better within 10 years, Prime Minister James Marape says.
“People will be able to receive first-class treatment,” he said.
“Quality health services must be accessible to our people and within reach in communities, towns and cities.
“We are focused in giving better modern health care to our people.”
Marape said the budget allocation for the Health Department this year was increased by 11 per cent.
“The allocation for the health sector for the first time, is the highest compared with others,” he said.
“This trend will continue for the next 10 years.
“We cannot compromise our people’s health.
“We have launched the National Health Plan 2021-2030.”
Marape said this at the opening of Tari Hospital’s accident and emergency department and ground breaking ceremony for the new K300 million hospital in Hela on Friday.
At the launching of the health plan, he said people must be within an hour of travelling, either by walking, travelling by vehicle, ship or plane to the nearest health services.
“I was in Gulf recently, it is really sad, equally like Hela and Southern Highlands, the resource owning provinces, there is little or next to nothing.
“It is only fair the Government and the Health Department responded accordingly.”
