National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru says there has been a great improvement to the NID registration process since the PNG Civil and Identity Registry Office management changed three months ago.
Presenting birth certificates and NID cards to staff from the Lands Department through Lands and Physical Planning Minister Justin Tkatchenko and employees of Bank South Pacific, Maru said:
“The national government continues to demonstrate that the national identity project is an important one and I am pleased to announce that there have been great changes and improvements to the integrity of the NID registration process when I made a change to the management three months ago.”
Maru said before the change in management, only 146,567 people were registered over five years.
“But now after three months in the change in management, we have a total of 258,026 applications approved and registered,” he said.
