THE four major political parties in the Government Coalition have at least three members who hold ministerial portfolios.
Prime Minister James Marape and leader of the ruling Pangu Pati when announcing a cabinet reshuffle in Port Moresby on Thursday, said he stuck to his “three-to-one” ratio in allocating ministries to the major coalition partners – the National Alliance Party, United Resources Party, United Labour Party and People’s Party.
The National Alliance has four ministerial portfolios. The United Labour Party, People’s Party and the United Resources Party have three ministerial portfolios each.
The People’s National Congress, People’s Progress Party, Our Development Party, PNG National Party, Social Democratic Party, Allegiance Party, Melanesian Alliance Party and Affiliated to Liberal Party each have one member who holds a ministerial portfolio.
The ruling Pangu Pati holds 12 ministerial portfolios. Marape said the changes “will consolidate stability, enhance leadership at the political level to drive key policy priorities of the Government which capitalise on the skills and capabilities of individual ministers”.
“These changes are necessary to ensure all coalition partners have members in cabinet.”
