THE Jacks of PNG is proud to support local fashion designs and clothing at its shops.
A local fashion designer Cynthia Kewei said her ‘Chauka Ya’ label was all about promoting her province, Manus, through its culture, flora and fauna.
Chauka Ya is a garment and accessory label by Kewei that produces original, narrative-driven casual and fun lifestyle clothing with a strong connection to her island home of Manus.
“We take traditionally significant items and objects from Manus culture and everyday life and we give them a fun and entertaining twist,” she said.
“The cheeky, loud and persistent Chauka bird (which appears on the Manus provincial flag and emblem) has a strong persona instilled in the brand mission to create refreshing, entertaining designs for ladies, men and the youth of today.
“Just like the Chauka bird we own our look and feel, and know how to grab attention.
“Chauka Ya is not just about getting peoples’ attention but about creating that loud and proud persona.
“Chauka Ya is not about playing by the rules.
“Chauka ya is a lifestyle for those who only choose to experience what they enjoy.
“Chauka Ya is for our people who aspire to live life loud and proud just like the Chauka and our people.”
She said money from every purchase of the label are also put to community obligation projects.
