DEFENDING champions, Chauka FC of Tabubil retained the Changol’s Cup for second year running after thrashing Toloas of Pere 4-0, in the soccer grand final on Friday.

Played in front of a capacity crowd at Pere soccer oval, the boys from Tabubil were far more superior in skills and tactics, proving a handful for the village-based Toloas throughout the 90 minutes of football.

Chauka’s two-goal hero and National Soccer League player, Andrew Marampau led the scoring with a double, while Kusunan Siski and Ben Romas contributed a goal each to bring the tally to four at the close of the final.

Marlins, of Whal, finished third, edging out Chola of Pere 1-0.

NCD United, one of the pre-tournament favourites with two NSL players Abraham Enoch and Godrey Dobbin, failed to live up to expectations, losing to Chola in the semi-finals.

The tournament’s sponsor, Changol Tapas described the competition as a success.

Despite heavy rain over the first three days of the tournament, the last two days of the tournament was played under sunny conditions.

The week-long tournament was incident-free, culminating in an exciting — if a little one-sided — final.
