THE 22-kilometer road project from Poreporena to Nine-Mile in Port Moresby will be completed this year, according to the contractor China Harbour Engineering Company Limited.

The company said in a statement that the road from Poreporena to Gerehu, about 13km, costing K196m should be completed in July.

The 9km section from Kasio Circle in Gerehu Stage One to Nine-Mile will cost K122m and should be completed in March.

CHEC construction manager Jessi Qi said he agreed with National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop that the project would be delivered on time and budget.

The section from Kasio Circle to Nine-Mile would have been opened last month but was delayed by the relocation of police families living at Tasion Barracks.

Qi said the 665 staff comprised 205 Chinese and 460 locals.

Meanwhile Parkop is confident that CHEC would deliver a quality product within the deadline and on budget.

Parkop also said the Paga Hill Ring Road was progressing slowly because of some issues with settlers and Steamships.

“About a quarter of that road has been sealed and we are yet to sign the contract with another contractor because Curtain Brothers have disappointed us.
