Chef in court for allegedly robbing employer

A CHEF appeared from custody yesterday charged with armed robbery of a restaurant where he had worked for a long time.
The Port Moresby restaurant allegedly lost more than K22,000 in goods and cash that day, the Waigani Commital Court heard.
Magistrate Garry Unjo read the charge to Fredy Mowai Wano, 42, of Kimi village in Okapa, Eastern Highlands, who allegedly committed the crime while on duty with five others whom he had allowed in before holding up the staff. The case was adjourned to March 17 for mention and Wano remains in custody.
He worked for the restaurant since 2011 but left in 2014 when his father passed away.
The restaurant’s Chinese manageress known as Aunty Jenny, a long-time resident in the country, recalled Wano in November.
It is alleged that on Jan 29, Wano took over cooking duties from another chef for a week.
Wano approached another manageress known as Nancy and asked her for K2 – to be deducted from his wage.
He went out of the restaurant and on his way back, he allegedly came in with four men, including Hufi.
The men pretended to be customers and one of them asked to buy chicken and chips.
Wano allegedly told the cashier to open the staff door to where the cashier was but the men then allegedly forced their way in and held up all the restaurant staff.
Two suspects were allegedly armed with homemade pistols while the other two had a bolt cutter and a pinch bar and forced open a box below the cash register counter where the cashier was.
Hufi was allegedly armed with a factory-made pistol. After they forced open the box, they allegedly took K10,000 in cash, Digicel flex cards, bmobile top cards, and Telikom Rait prepaid cards and two Samsung Galaxy S9 mobile phones valued at K3,700 each.

    As much as we should should protect our own citizens we must also protect foreign investors
