A CHILD needs their parents’ love and protection, says Wewak Diocese Bishop Jozef Roszynski (SVD).
He said last year, each parish in the province tried to make people more aware of the great gift of new life and that every child is a gift from God.
“‘Care, protection and catechesis of children’ was our motto and guiding thought for the pastoral initiatives in the Diocese (Wewak) in 2017.
“Each parish was trying to make people more aware of the great gift of new life and every child that is a gift from God.
“Each child needs our love and best of attention.
“Yet as we know from our observation of the reality is not always so.
“Specially designed retreat talks for communities and programmes were to help us to improve on our knowledge of the needs of children, to foster our care and protection for every child in our midst.
“As pastoral agents, we were encouraged to make sure that the children will be given the opportunity to be baptised, and brought to the knowledge of Jesus, the Holy Scripture and the Church,” he said.
The Wewak Diocese has 48 parishes with approximately 214,000 (2014 figure) faithful.
