COPIES of a book depicting remote and pristine areas in the country have been given to the Buk Bilong Pikinini library learning centre at Koki, Port Moresby.
The 25 copies of The Tonda was handed over by author and publisher Glenn Armstrong on Tuesday.
The Tonda, which relates a journey along the Bensbach River in the Tonda wildlife management area of Western, is a 12-page hardcover book.
The Tonda wildlife management area covers 590,000 hectares and contains more than half of the country’s bird population plus millions of insects, plants and microorganisms inhabiting ecosystems in the region.
The book includes brilliant photography by Papua New Guinea photographer Rocky Roe, with words and interviews by Glenn Armstrong.
The book donation was received by the founder and chair of Buk bilong Pikinini, Anne-Sophie Hermann and deputy executive officer at the Hagara Library Learning Centre in Hanuabada Leanne Resson. “Donations such as this are vital to our cause as we seek to establish more library learning centres and also donate books to schools across Papua New Guinea so they can restore their depleted school libraries,” Hermann said.
“It is vital for PNG children to recognise and appreciate the beautiful and unique flora and fauna which can be found here.
“This book is a great addition to our collection of books seeking to inspire children to want to learn to read and write.”
