A PROJECT coordination office has been set up for women in Chimbu to participate meaningfully in socio-economic activities in the province.

The office is the initiative of Governor Noah Kool and will be headed by senior educationist and provincial council of women member Joanne Bongerre.

Provincial council of women president Martha Kaiua commended Kool for realising the struggles of that Chimbu women and girls have endured over the years.

“Despite the requirement for woman representative in provincial assembly as stipulated in provincial government administration Act 1997, section 10 (3) (e) of the Organic Law, Simbu women were neglected over the years,” Kaiua said.

She said Governor Kool finally heard their pleas for equal participation and created an avenue for Chimbu women to be involved in socio-economic development activities.

Kool’s concern for women was realised attended the National Council of Women’s annual general meeting last month in Mt Hagen, Wester Highlands, and donated K10,000 and a vehicle.
