THE Chimbu government gave K70,000 to the Papua New Guinea Bodybuilding Federation to host last weekend’s national championships in Kundiawa, according to Governor Michael Dua.
He was responding to comments made by Chimbu Bodybuilding Association coordinator and back-to-back Mr Papua New Guinea title winner Steve Bomal.
“It was a big letdown from the governor as the sponsorship of K70,000 was never to be found to meet the cost of the tournament,” Bomal said.
He said his title-winning performance at last year’s championships had earned the province the right to host the tournament.
Bomal said they wanted to cancel the event but outside participants, who had already arrived in the province, insisted that the tournament went ahead.
However, Dua said: “We have already given K70,000 to the federation as sponsorship and they have no-one to blame but themselves if the funds were not spent or have been misused.
“I am in Port Moresby because of the parliament sitting.
“Otherwise, I would have been there at the event as the major sponsor. We have done our part.”
