CHINA is accepting all fishery products from Papua New Guinea, according to National Fisheries Authority officer Carson Koviro.’
This follows the granting of market access to China in May, after three years of trying by the authority.
Koviro said during the presentation of beche-de-mer licences for 2020 in Port Moresby on Monday that the deal allowed any PNG company to export fishery products to China.
“China is waiting for our exports,” Koviro said.
He said 77 companies were eligible to export to China, including 36 processing facilities. The authority has advised China that PNG’s beech-de-mer season opens in September.
The list of companies interested in exporting their products to China will be submitted once all the processes are completed.
“China Customs is waiting for that list,” he said. “One of the processes would be registering your company information which includes company contact address.”
Koviro said the registration of companies with China Customs would be subjected to protocols in terms of food security, hazard analysis and critical control points.
Koviro said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Health Organisation had come up with new measures to govern the export of fishery products around the world.
The NFA had been informed to be cautious of the safety and security measures when handling sea food.
