THE China-PNG Friendship Association recently donated K100,000 towards patient care at the Port Moresby General Hospital through the association, Friends of POMGEN, the charity arm of the hospital.
President of China-PNG Friendship Association Michael Lin said the funds were raised by members of the association and the Chinese community. “We not only provide tangible help to the local society through this activity but also convey our care and support to the hospital and patients at this festive season.
“I thank the Chinese community for their continuous support,” Lin said.
“This charity event is part of the association’s long-term support to the local community and will continue to work with the local institutions to make more contributions to improving and promoting community health.”
The cheque was received by Friends of Pomgen chairman Katherine Johnston, who is also the deputy chairman of the hospital.
Johnston expressed her sincere gratitude to the China-PNG association for the continued financial support through Friends of Pomgen towards saving lives at the hospital.
Johnston said funds donated were part of a car-wash fundraising drive.
She said last year they raised K60,000 and this year K100,000.
Johnston said the partnership between Friends of Pomgen and China-PNG Friendship Association would continue to focus on infrastructure development in certain areas of need in the hospital.
She commended the association for “such a wonderful gift during this festive season”.
The donation was made to the hospital on Dec 11.
