China has donated 5 million RMB (about K2.78 million) to support Papua New Guinea’s Coronavirus (Covid-19) response.
The cheque was presented to Prime Minister James Marape by the Chinese Ambassador to PNG Zeng Fanhua on Friday at the Covid-19 National Control Centre (NCC).
Zeng said the donation followed a telephone conversation between President Xi Jinping and Marape on Oct 26.
“President Xi Jinping reaffirmed that China will continue to provide various support to PNG in its fight against the Covid-19,” he said.
“In addition to the funding, donations of medical equipment to PNG including ventilators, oxygen generators and oxi-metres will arrive in PNG soon.”
He said PNG was a good friend and partner of China and mutual help in difficult times had deepened the friendship.
“China will never forget that at the beginning of the pandemic in China last year, Marape sent a letter to President Xi Jinping on behalf of the government and people of PNG to express support.”
