The National, Tuesday 13th March 2012

PRIME Minister and PNC party leader Peter O’Neill was the man who won the hearts of the Goroka community and participants all over PNG, including intending candidates who attended the PNC party convention last week.
The policies and guidelines to steer the young and vibrant party into the next decade embrace the leadership style of O’Neill.
Weeding out corruption in all circles, giving priority to education for nation building and an intense focus on the rural bulk is what has been lacking in the past 36 years.
The O’Neill-Namah government has won the hearts of almost all Papua New Guineans in just seven months and this is something that will go down well in the history of this great nation.
I want to thank all MPs who are riding with O’Neill through thick and thin and mark my words, you are the real heroes.
The possibility of getting re-elected into parliament is promising, but it depends entirely on how your play your cards.
In terms of candidate endorsement throughout the country, the prime minister read out some very outstanding selection criteria during the convention.
However, be reminded that there are some intending candidates and failed politicians who are becoming con artists, trying their best to push in with the help of outside influences.
Through the assessment process, please try to find out more about the candidates’ standing in the community, such as their leadership history and popularity, education qualification and so on.
Note that we have some failed politicians and former candidates who do not carry the credentials but pretend to be a better option for endorsement.
Some of them act like pastors but have a rotten heart.
Try to endorse candidates who have the people’s best interests, who maintain patience, passion, vision and vibrance in the likes of Peter O’Neill and Sam Basil.
Choose candidates who will think big, who are concerned about this country and who will assist to carry this young nation to the next level.
