Christian brother dotes on people’s freedom

EDUCATION in the country should be designed to prepare people for their responsibilities as free workers and citizens in a free and democratic society, Christian brother Stephen Musya says.
In statement he said people should be able to think for themselves and make judgments on ssues affecting them.
“They have to be able to interpret the decisions made through democratic institutions of our society and implement them in the light of the local circumstances peculiar to where they happen to live,” he said.
Musya said it would be a gross misinterpretation of needs to suggest that the education
system should be designed to produce robots who worked hard but never questioned what the leaders in government were doing and saying.
He said education must encourage the citizens to develop “an enquiring mind, an ability to learn and build basic confidence as free and equal members of the society”.
